Quick details: Doctor: Dr. Yong-Uk Ko Procedure: FUE Grafts: ~2000 Areas transplanted: crown only TLDR: Overall, I'm very happy with my experience and would recommend Dr. Ko and Moem Clinic to those considering a hair transplant. Dr. Ko and his team are professional, thoughtful, detail-oriented, and patient-focused. --- I travelled from the US to have a hair transplant. I had been thinking about getting a hair transplant for a while. I noticed my crown started thinning at around 22 and by 25 it was noticeable enough that some friends would point it out. Minoxidil and Finasteride for ~2 years helped stave it off for a bit, but I wanted to fill in the gaps. When I considered options internationally, a Korean friend suggested checking out clinics in Korea. My friend helped me find reputable clinics in Seoul, and I also cross-checked reviews and before/after photos on Reddit and Korean sites. I liked Dr. Ko because he had strong reviews with great before/after photos. The consultation process was smooth. Dr. Ko speaks and writes fluent English and responded promptly to my emails, answering all my questions clearly. We also had a video call to address any concerns (at this point, I felt knowledgeable about the hair transplant process, donor hair management, and the general risks, but it was still nice to speak with the doctor face-to-face). During the call, he asked to see my hair over video and explained his estimation of the grafts and what to expect on the day of the operation. From my research, I expected a fully shaven head, but I liked that this clinic specializes in a non-shaven FUE method. I felt like I could quickly go back to daily life without anyone knowing I’d had a hair transplant unless I told them. I was in Korea for about a week and went to the clinic 3 times: a pre-surgery check up, the surgery itself, and a post-surgery follow-up. I met with Dr. Ko on the day before the surgery where he confirmed his final estimation of the grafts/cost and also checked for any potential scalp issues. Afterwards, I met with a staff member who explained the process, aftercare, and what to expect in the months following the surgery (they gave me a packet with all the info written down). I don’t speak Korean, but the office had team members with strong English skills, so I never felt lost or unable to communicate. On this day, Dr. Ko also prescribed my aftercare medication, and a staff member accompanied me to the pharmacy to streamline the process. The next day, I had the surgery. The entire process took about 4 hours. Dr. Ko handled the entire procedure, from extraction to implanting the grafts, with several team members assisting with both the surgery as well as keeping me comfortable. I felt at ease the whole time: he explained each step, regularly asked if I was comfortable and made the process easy to follow--no surprises at all during the surgery. We started with the extraction, took a short break, then moved on to implantation. During the procedure, they bandaged my donor area and went over the aftercare instructions with me afterwards. They also provided a packet with clear, detailed guidance in English for the days immediately following surgery and FAQs. Keep in mind this was a crown-only surgery, so I can’t speak to this process for hairline/other types of procedures. The day after the surgery, I returned to the clinic where a technician removed my bandages, washed my hair and answered any final questions I had about the process and the medications. They also have a Whatsapp where I could reach Dr. Ko or the staff with any questions even after I returned to the States. So far, so good. I'm excited to see how my crown fills in over the next few months. Photos (in order): 1. My hair before the surgery 2. My hair 5 days after surgery 3. I recently traveled from the US to have an FUE hair transplant with Dr. Ko at Moem clinic. The entire experience was very thoughtfully anticipated and all of the staff were very kind and accommodating in their efforts to make me comfortable. So far, my recovery has been smooth and appears to be progressing as expected. Based on my experience, I would gladly recommend this clinic not only to patients in Korea, but also to those traveling internationally who are seeking a high-quality hair transplant. The surgeon took his time and paid attention to detail, which I appreciate. It was very easy to communicate with Dr. Ko in English which was really helpful to me. Also, thank you to the other English translator/coordinator (I’m sorry I don’t remember her name). She was very kind and walked me across the street to the pharmacy and even waited for me while my cab was arriving. I thought that was very thoughtful too.
